Virat Kohli's Ranji Trophy return: DDCA beefs up security

Security arrangements at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi have been beefed up in anticipation of a strong crowd present at the stadium when Virat Kohli makes his return to Ranji Trophy in the match against Railways, beginning January 30.

Kohli has been named for the tie against Railways after his return to the state team after more than 12 years got delayed when he had to skip the team's last match against Saurashtra because of a neck sprain.

But the former India captain is now set to take centre-stage on his home ground, which is expected to bring fans to the venue in big numbers; and the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is making sure that the security arrangements are up to mark.

"The Delhi Police will receive a letter from us. We have enhanced our private security, so we have initiated all these arrangements, and we will attempt to ensure there is no inconvenience for the fans when they come on January 30 to see the match," DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma has said.

Delhi will continue to be led by Ayush Badoni. However, the team will be without its other international star, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant.

Kohli is expected to train with the rest of the Delhi squad at the venue on Tuesday in preparation for the match.

The 36-year-old Kohli was previously seen training with former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar in Mumbai ahead of his return to domestic cricket.

Kohli has been struggling with the bat, especially in red-ball cricket, scoring just 190 runs in 9 Test innings during the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
