A violent brute who left his partner needing 11 staples to her head after hitting her with a bottle has been jailed.
Jealous Alan Appleby and his girlfriend had been arguing at the latter's home in Sunderland when he grabbed a glass bottle from a nearby bin and struck her to the back of the head. The bleeding victim was so terrified of the 33-year-old that she fled from the house naked and hid in a neighbour's bush, a court was told.
The woman eventually managed to get to a nearby property and seek help. The police were called and Appleby was arrested but denied using the weapon to strike his partner.
