Nottinghamshire attacker smashed man's nose with wooden pole in street

An attacker smashed up a man's nose with a wooden pole. Michael Pridmore left his victim, who is in his 40s, with life-altering injuries. PC David Hawksworth, the lead investigator in the case, described what happened, on Saturday, March 27, 2021, as "an utterly shocking attack on an innocent man who is now going to suffer from the consequences of this incident for the rest of his life".

Details of the crime were revealed by Nottinghamshire Police as Pridmore was jailed for 27 months at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (18 May) after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm.

Armed with a plank of wood in Newark Close, Mansfield, Pridmore, 56, shouted at him, before lashing out and striking the man in the face, and walking off. The victim staggered up the footpath and called 999 for help.

Meanwhile, officers tracked Pridmore to a garden before arrest. According to Nottinghamshire Police, the man required multiple surgeries on his nose after it was broken in eight places. Following extensive treatment at hospital, he is expected to suffer the consequences of this attack for the rest of his life, say police.

After sentencing, PC Hawksworth added: “I welcome the judge's result in this case, though Pridmore’s time behind bars will never make up for the victim’s injuries and the impact the incident has had on his life – I do hope it brings the victim some peace that he will now serve time in prison for his actions.

“Actions like these have no place in our society, leaving a man’s life forever impacted because of the violence he was victim to is awful.

“Violence of this manner will never be tolerated on our streets, and we will make sure those responsible are dealt with and put before judges to answer for their crimes – I hope Pridmore's sentence hits home for him and the impact his actions have had on his victim.”
