Violent Lanarkshire man admits assault on neighbour and mental health unit attack

A man smashed a window then attacked a neighbour after being asked to sweep up the glass.

Anthony Goss also assaulted another man at a mental health unit.

The 35-year-old appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week, where he admitted punching the neighbour and acting in a threatening or abusive manner in Maple Terrace, East Kilbride, on May 20 last year.

He also admitted headbutting a man at Beckford Lodge, Caird Street, Hamiton, on September 29, 2019.

The court heard that the neighbour was taking his dog for a walk when he saw a broken window, with glass strewn across the floor of the common close.

He asked Goss, who had caused the damage, to clear up the mess as there were children and dogs in the vicinity.

A short time later he was confronted by Goss who charged towards him and punched him, causing a small cut to the side of his head.

Goss also shouted abuse at his neighbour and a woman who had arrived on the scene.

The Beckford Lodge assault was witnessed by an office worker there.

She saw Goss headbutt the victim, knocking him to the ground and causing his nose to bleed.

He was helped by staff before being taken to hospital for checks.

The court was told that Goss, now of Ballochmyle, East Kilbride, has previous convictions, although these are not recent.

Sheriff David Bicket deferred sentence until December for background and psychiatric reports and continued bail.
