Vinicius Jr posts Real Madrid chant mocking Atletico Madrid after suffering racist abuse

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior revelled in his side’s derby victory against Atletico Madrid on Sunday by posting lyrics of a chant mocking Diego Simeone’s side.

First half goals from Rodrygo Goes and Fede Valverde helped seal the win for the Spanish and European champions, with Vinicius defying warnings that he would cause “trouble” by replicating his dancing celebration.

The Brazil international was the subject of disgusting racist chants from sections of Atleti fans ahead of the game as videos emerged on social media of the abhorrent language used. That came after Vinicius was targeted with a racist slur on live Spanish TV by agent Pedro Bravo.

Bravo said during an El Chiringuito discussion of the Brazil international that "in Spain, you have to respect rivals and stop playing the monkey". Following a backlash alleging that this was a racist stereotype, Bravo has subsequently apologised on social media by claiming that he misused a metaphor. It has opened a discussion across Spain and further afield of the language and attitude applied towards footballers with racial undertones.

Vinicius was the target of sickening monkey chants and loud whistles throughout the match, while videos emerged on social media of racist chanting from large sections of the Atletico support prior to the game getting underway.

The Brazilian revelled in the victory after the game by posting lyrics of a Real Madrid fan chant which mocks their Atletico counterparts. The lyrics of the chant remind Atleti how they lost the 2014 and 2016 Champions League finals to their city rivals, with the words including how fans of Los Rojiblancos cried in both Lisbon (2014) and Milan (2016).

Vinicius quote tweeted Chema Calderón, who wrote in the aftermath of the match: "Perdiendo las finaaleeeeeees..." (losing the finals) with the Brazilian adding the lyrics "Contra nuestro Real" (against our Real) before adding, in a separate tweet "y todo sigue igual..." (and everything remains the same).

The full Real Madrid chant is: “Los años van pasando, Y todo sigue igual, Perdiendo las finales, Contra nuestro Real, No importa lo que digan, Nunca lo olvidarán, Lloraron en Lisboa, Lloraron en Milán, ¡Real Madrid, dale!” Which translates into English as: “The years go by, and everything remains the same, losing the finals, against our Real, No matter what they say, they will never forget, They cried in Lisbon, They cried in Milan.”

Vinicius, 22, has vowed to keep his goal dancing celebrations as they show "the happiness of a black Brazilian in Europe", with his celebrations similar to those of his fellow Brazilian stars over the years – including international teammate Neymar. Vinicius has bagged five goals in all competitions this campaign for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
