Vincent Kompany decision pushes Chelsea to Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham eye Julian Nagelsmann

Former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has been a name linked with a big move to Chelsea and Tottenham in recent weeks as next manager for both clubs. The 37-year-old's coaching journey appears to be on the rise after a difficult spell at Anderlecht led to his time at Burnley this season.

With the club in the Championship after relegation, Kompany was tasked with transforming the side's style of play while guiding them back to the Premier League. He managed just that, playing possession-based football as the side cruised towards promotion and the title with weeks to spare.

It led to the links with some big moves, but the former City captain was adamant that he was going to stay at Turf Moor for the time being. He has backed that up by signing a new contract that will take his time with the club until 2028, showing the faith they have in the coach.

“Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start - so it also feels right to sign for the next five years," he told the club website. "Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step.”

For Chelsea and Tottenham, it appears as though their search for a new head coach will have to be elsewhere, though Kompany never appeared to be the firm favourite. The Blues may be pushed closer to sealing a deal for Mauricio Pochettino as a result as football.london understands the former Spurs boss is closing in on a move, but yet to be agreed or confirmed as next manager.

As for his previous side, the Lilywhites have been linked heavily with a move for Julian Nagelsmann after his dismissal from Bayern Munich, but it remains to be seen whether a firm approach will be made.
