People in one Merseyside village were "close to tears" after hearing church bells for the first time in two years.
St Mary's Church on Stanley Lane in Eastham Village had stood silent for two years following the coronavirus pandemic. However, a group of bell ringers broke that silence on Mother's Day - much to the joy of villagers.
St Mary's Church is a Grade II listed building and a place of worship has been on the site at the heart of the community since before the Domesday Book. Some parts of the building date back to the 12th and 13th centuries and its courtyard is home to an ancient yew tree that is said to date back hundreds of years.
