Living in a city you can sometimes crave a quieter experience on your weekend, but luckily Bristol is surrounded by beautiful villages and pretty towns, most within an hour’s drive. We have Cirencester and Bourton-on-the-Water to the north and south there is Misdomer Norton and Frome.
But if you’re looking to visit somewhere a little lesser-known then the village of Nunney is a must - which sits just two miles from Frome. It is a beautiful, quintessential English village which writers have described as the prettiest in all of England, reports Somerset Live.
BBC Radio 4 chose it as a typical English village where children can play in the fields and grow up in a strong, loving community. It has picture-postcard scenery and a stunning moated medieval castle right in the centre.

The castle is absolutely stunning, and so unusual to see the moat running right around it in the centre of the village, and during the spring and summer months hanging baskets of beautiful flowers line the high street.
It is a French-style castle surrounded by a deep moat, built for Sir John Dalaware in 1373, and said to have been based on the Bastille in Paris. It really is like something from Disney's Beauty and the Beast, it is like a film set.
The George pub is opposite the castle, it is a fine old 17th country pub with roaring fires in winter and exposed beams offering good, hearty local dishes and it has 10 bedrooms so you can stay and explore the area. The wonderfully named Moat & Turret cafe by the castle is also a great spot for a bit of lunch or a cuppa as well.
