A man who sexually assaulted a schoolgirl and kept tens of thousands of indecent images has been jailed.
Juan Cervera, 40, “brazenly” approached the 12-year-old in her uniform on her way to school on a train, on November 18, 2020.
He put his hand up her skirt in front of other passengers and then followed her when she left the train, until she ran away from him at King’s Cross Station.
The British Transport Police (BTP) investigated for six months before they were able to identify and arrest Cervera.
When officers took him in, they seized multiple phones and hard drives from his home on Anchor Drive, in Tottenham, North London.
These devices were being used to store indecent images, including ones which showed upskirting, outraging public decency and voyeurism.
The BTP said Cervera “showed no remorse for his actions” during questioning, adding that he refused to comment when he was shown CCTV of what he did.
He pleaded not guilty to sexual assault but was nonetheless convicted last year.
Cervera pleaded guilty to voyeurism and upskirting at Inner London Crown Court on September 18, in 2023.
On Friday, he was sentenced to three years for sexual assault and six months for voyeurism and upskirting.
Detective Sergeant Robert Wilkes said: “One brave victim coming forward led us to a vile and prolific offender. Her testimony has helped us make sure that he is no longer a danger to women on the rail network.
“The victim, who is just twelve years old, first noticed Cervera because he was staring at her. He quickly went on to assault her and our investigation then revealed a litany of other offences.
“This case shows how offending escalates and how one offender may have multiple victims.
“We are dedicated to stopping these types of offenders at the earliest point possible.
“If you’ve seen or experienced any type of sexual behaviour that makes you uncomfortable – be it staring, someone following another passenger, or someone taking photos - I urge you to report it to police.”
