Viktor Gyokeres has fuelled speculation over a transfer to Manchester United after opening up on his ambition to play in the Premier League.
The Swedish international is Europe’s most prolific striker this season with 26 goals in 24 appearances.
He has been linked with a move to Manchester United ever since Ruben Amorim made the switch from Sporting to Old Trafford.
United have struggled for goals this season and the Sporting striker would appear to be a suitable signing for the Red Devils.
Amorim has denied suggestions he will try to sign any of his former Sporting players in the short-term future. Gyokeres though has outlined his ambition of playing in England’s top flight.
United Transfer Target Victor Gyokeres Admits Premier League Dream
Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres made the transfer to Sporting from Championship side Coventry in the summer of 2023.
He instantly helped the club to the league title under Amorim last season. His form in Portugal has seen him linked to top clubs including United and Arsenal.
Gyokeres told Swedish Daily, as per the Daily Mail: “Of course it [moving to Sporting] was different, because I had the goal of playing in the Premier League.
“That was my focus and the adjustment was difficult but I thought about it. I talked to those around me who helped me a lot.
“It started to look more and more like it was the right thing to do: play in a top team and have more chances during games.
“In the end it seems like it was the best choice for me.”
Viktor Gyokeres’ comments justify his move to Sporting but his Premier League ambition could see him make a transfer to a club like Manchester United in the future.
Manchester United’s Lack Of Goals
Manchester United’s pursuit of potential transfer Viktor Gyokeres comes amid a struggle in front of goal this season.
They are 13th in the table with only four clubs scoring fewer goals than them in the Premier League this season. United have netted 21 goals, while Crystal Palace (17), Everton (14), Ipswich (16) and Southampton (11) have scored fewer.
There is also uncertainty over the futures of two of their attacking players.
Marcus Rashford has revealed that he is ready for a new challenge. His comments come after reports that United would be willing to sell the 27-year-old.
Joshua Zirkzee’s agent meanwhile is reportedly set for showdown talks with the club. The Dutch striker only arrived in the summer but has struggled for form and chances – with Juventus among the clubs interested.
