The trend continues in mock drafts for the Minnesota Vikings. In the latest mock draft from J.P. Acosta and Jarred Mueller of SB Nation, they had the Vikings selecting Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks.
Getting a talented player with their first overall pick that has real upside needs to be the priority. Banks has that and then some, especially after running a 4.35 40-yard dash at the combine.
Here is what my scouting report has to say about Banks.
Banks is an impressive cornerback. The first thing that jumps off the page with him is ball skills. Banks attacks the football with aggression and was trusted to cover top receivers in Marvin Harrison Jr. and Rashee Rice.
Banks can play in both man and zone coverage. In man, he stays in phase with the receiver well and doesn’t leave the hip pocket. Works well in trail. In zone, he understands where he is and can click and close fast on the football.
The Vikings have been mocked Banks a lot in recent weeks, including eight times last week.
