The Minnesota Vikings haven’t committed to quarterback Kirk Cousins beyond 2023, which is causing many to wonder if they are preparing to find his successor.
Josh Edwards of CBS Sports released a mock draft in which the Vikings select Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker.
Kirk Cousins is entering the final year of his contract with some dummy years tacked onto the end. It could serve as a perfect transition period from Cousins to Hendon Hooker, who suffered a torn ACL late in the season.
In college, Hooker demonstrated flashes of brilliance as a dual-threat quarterback. He impressed onlookers with his arm strength and accuracy in the passing game. However, Hooker is an older prospect at 25 years old who was inconsistent with overall play and pocket awareness.
If the Vikings believe that they can enhance Hooker’s consistency as a player at the next level, then he would be a valuable selection. Hooker would have plenty of time to learn and develop by sitting behind Cousins, who is set to become a free agent after the 2023 season.
