Vikings season ends as Kirk Cousins throws short of the sticks vs. Giants

The season is over for the Minnesota Vikings as the New York Giants come into U.S. Bank Stadium and upset the purple and gold by the score of 31-24.

The first drive of the game gave a lot of hope to Vikings fans. Quarterback Kirk Cousins was perfect on the first drive of the game, going 8-8 for 64 yards. His quarterback sneak from a yard out put the Vikings up 7-0 early on.

After that first drive, the Vikings defense boarded the struggle bus. They allowed 267 yards in the first half, including 71 rushing yards to quarterback Daniel Jones. The Vikings did answer the 17-straight points by the Giants with a touchdown drive capped off by a K.J. Osborn touchdown.

The defense tightened up in the second half, including a couple of really nice pass breakups by Duke Shelley in the fourth quarter. They weren’t able to do enough, especially on third down. The Giants finished the game 7-13 on fourth down and 2-2 on fourth down. Getting conversions at that high of a rate.

Overall, the Vikings didn’t play nearly well enough to win this game, especially on defense. They fall to 11-1 in one-score games on the season and allowed 400 yards of offense.

The offseason is here for the Vikings and there are a lot of questions that will need to be answered.
