The hold-in for Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter is over. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Vikings have agreed to a new one-year contract with Hunter worth $20 million with $17 million fully guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $4.9 million in 2023.

This was the most likely solution for both sides, as Hunter had massively outplayed his contract. This resulted from Hunter signing a contract extension in 2018 that was a massive steal for the Vikings.
The intrigue with this contract is the no tag clause. If the Vikings want to keep Hunter after the 2023 season, they will have to sign him to an extension or risk losing him to free agency.
The Vikings defense needs Hunter to improve on their 31st-ranked performance from 2022. Hunter had 10.5 sacks and 76 pressures, ranking eighth in the league.
