Vikings 2024 NFL draft scouting report: Northern Iowa DT Khristian Boyd

Welcome to SKOL Search!

This series will be your guide to the 2024 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.

The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at quarterback, running back, defensive line and edge rusher. We will also focus on wide receiver since it’s a loaded class and an increased chance to get a Stefon Diggs-type steal in the later rounds.

The Vikings are slated to have 9 picks going into the NFL draft and they need to make the most out of them.

Strengths

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Boyd was a multi-year player for Northern Iowa and the experience showed on tape.

He has a good first step and gets off the ball consistently. Can threaten offensive linemen on a horizontal plane.

Displays really good leverage consistently. He doesn’t get pushed off the ball and his motor helps prevent him from getting displaced from his gap.

Is willing to take on double teams. Does a good job sensing them coming and holds up well.

Weaknesses

While Boyd flashes multiple elements to be a quality player, it’s evident that his strength isn’t up to par. He needs a year or two in an NFL strength and conditioning program.

Boyd isn’t the most fluid athlete. He displays some stiffness when he’s trying to get around blockers.

Pass rush plan is lacking. He doesn’t have much of a repertoire of moves and struggles whenever it doesn’t work.

Biggest issue with Boyd is he doesn’t have anything to rely on to win on the interior.

Boyd is a player that isn’t developed but has a lot of intriguing tools and ability in his arsenal. If you spend some time developing some of those tools and get him in the weight room, Boyd could be a quality rotational player.
