Vikings 2024 NFL draft scouting report: Clemson DT Ruke Orhorhoro

Welcome to SKOL Search!

This series will be your guide to the 2024 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.

The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at quarterback, running back, defensive line and edge rusher. We will also focus on wide receiver since it’s a loaded class and an increased chance to get a Stefon Diggs-type steal in the later rounds.

The Vikings are slated to have 9 picks going into the NFL draft and they need to make the most out of them.

Strengths

USA Today Sports

First thing that stands out is his size. Orhorhoro is a well-built, thick defensive lineman with positional versatility across the line of scrimmage. It comes across when Orhorhoro uses a lot of power to move the pocket.

Orhorhoro is always keeping his head up. He does a great job of clogging passing lanes by getting his hands up. His awareness is arguably the best part of his game.

In the running game, Orhorhoro holds his own. Senses double teams well and can handle them decently. He can stack and shed defenders consistently to get at the ball carrier.

Weaknesses

Ken Ruinard-USA TODAY Sports

Orhorhoro has good power but when he gets stonewalled, he doesn’t have a counter move that he can go to. Once he’s engaged, it’s either run through the blocker or it’s over.

Pass rush repertoire isn’t diverse. He flashes the ability to win in ways other than just power, but they are just flashes and nothing more at this point.

Orhorhoro needs to maximize his leverage better. When he pops out of his stance, Orhorhoro gets a little bit too vertical and loses the leverage battle.

Overview

USA Today Sports
Quickness/Penetration 16.1/20
Power 8.2/10
Pass Rush Moves 7.4/10
Counters 6.8/10
Leverage 7.3/10
Tackling 7.5/10
Size/Length 7.8/10
Run Defense 7.4/10
Awareness 8.3/10
Grade 76.8/100 Third Round

Orhorhoro is an interesting player. He understands how to use his power but there is a significant amount of development that needs to be done to get him to his full potential. A selection on late day two or early day three feels about right for him.
