Vigil for Ukraine to be held at Derry's Guildhall

A vigil is to be held at Derry 's Guildhall Square on Wednesday, March 2, in support of Ukraine.

The announcement comes as Russia intensifies its attacks on several Ukrainian cities.

In a statement, the organisers of the vigil urged the people to come out and show their support for the people of Ukraine.

"Hey everyone, I hope you're all well. This Wednesday evening, 2nd March at 7pm, we are gathering at the Guildhall Square to do a candlelit prayer vigil for Ukraine," they said.

"I’m sure many of you will agree that what is happening in the world at present, is truly heartbreaking.

"Many hearts are sore, families torn apart and the people of Ukraine are suffering so much. We want to unite in prayer, praying for peace and safety for all involved and for a change of policy from Russia.

"If you’re free this Wednesday, please come and join us and unite together in prayer."

People are being asked not to bring balloons along to the vigil.

The event is open to everyone. It will take place in front of the Guildhall and people are invited to gather from 7pm.
