Viewers loved TG4's documentary on Irish winners of the Grand National

TG4 took viewers on a trip down memory lane recounting some of the most famous Irish winners of the Grand National.

On the final episode of the latest season of Laochra na Rásaíochta, Rachael Blackmore, Davy Russell and David Mullins' wins in the world's most famous race were re-examined.

David Mullins was just a teenager when he won the race in 2016. Riding 'Rule the World' to victory for Michael O'Leary and Mouse Morris. Mullins was only 19 at the time, and is one of the youngest jockeys to ever win the race.

Davy Russell on the other hand was the oldest jockey in the race when he won the 2018 Grand National with Tiger Roll. Russell defended his title aboard the Gordon Elliott-trained horse a year later, with Tiger Roll becoming the first horse to win two Grand Nationals in a row since Red Rum in 1974.

Blackmore's win was the most recent and is perhaps the most iconic. Steering Minella Times to victory in 2021, the Tipperary star became the first woman in history to win the Aintree spectacular.

It was an engrossing hour of television, and afterwards, plenty took to Twitter to praise the program.

"What an insight from Davy on the first Tiger Roll Grand National win. An grá le braith in a ghlór anocht ar Laochra na Rasaíochta. Brilliant. @TouchlineMedia @SportTG4," wrote one user.

"Rule the world won the grand national and me a fortune," said one user as they recalled Mullins' win.

Another Twitter user wrote, "What a lovely moment between @_Davy_Russel_ and @patcashhealy when Tiger Roll won the Grand National in 2018."

Referring to Blackmore, one person simply wrote "history in the making."
