Viewers applaud Prince Harry as he addresses 'hurtful' column by Jeremy Clarkson in tell-all ITV interview

Viewers applauded Prince Harry as he addressed the 'hurtful' and 'cruel' column by Jeremy Clarkson in his tell-all interview with Tom Bradby on ITV.

The former Top Gear presenter sparked outcry when he wrote in December that he "dreams of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, 'Shame!' and throw lumps of excrement at her" before adding that 'everyone my age agrees' with his thoughts on the Duchess.

Following the backlash to his column in the Sun, Jeremy said he was making a 'clumsy reference' to a scene from Game Of Thrones. His comments were made in response to Meghan and Harry's Netflix documentary, where the couple gave a detailed view of their side of events that lead up to them stepping down as senior figures in the royal family.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, addressed Clarkson's rant about Meghan, in which he said he hated her on a 'cellular level' in his interview with Tom Bradby on ITV.

He said: "Just recently, which I know you know about, the Jeremy Clarkson article, so not only did, what he said was horrific and is hurtful and cruel towards my wife, but it also encourages other people around the UK and around the world, men particularly, to go and think that it's acceptable to treat women that way.

He quoted Queen Consort Camilla, adding: "To use my stepmother’s words recently as well, there is a global pandemic of violent – violence against women."

Viewers applauded Harry for referencing the column, with @KMe_ki writing: "Oh wow Harry mentioning the Jeremy Clarkson insult against Meghan. Good for you Harry!!!"

@Emma1240 added: "Fair play to Harry for coming straight out and calling out Jeremy Clarkson’s shocking comments about Meghan and glad he also included pointing out that Camilla has recently said that there is a global pandemic of violence against women. Well done Harry."

As @David_Challen continued: "Harry rightly calling out the deafening silence from the royal family towards Jeremy Clarkson’s misogynistic column about Meghan. That failure to speak out not only affects Harry and Meghan, their family, but all women."
