Vietnamese restaurant to take over site of Northern Quarter diner after closure due to 'soaring costs'

A popular Vietnamese restaurant is relocating to the Northern Quarter and taking over the site formerly occupied by a vegan diner.

Established in 2010, Vnam first opened on Oldham Road in Ancoats, becoming one of the first places to popularise Vietnamese cuisine in the city. Now, after more than 10 years its upping sticks and moving into the unit that was formerly vegan diner, V Rev, which closed suddenly is September due to "soaring costs".

From V Rev to Vnam, the new location will serve up the same popular dishes as the previous site - from steaming bowls of Pho and chicken and prawn summer rolls bursting with fresh flavours. The Ancoats favourite is also loved for it speciality coffee - a Vietnamese drip coffee served with or without condensed milk, which is a delicacy in Vietnam.

Sharing the news on Instagram last week, owners of the Vietnamese restaurant wrote: "It's official, December 18th will be our very last day after 12 fantastic years at Oldham Road. We have decided to open for the next 2 weekends for all of you wishing to warm yourself up the festive season with traditional Pho."

In another post shared to Instagram, yesterday, the restaurant's owners reminded customers that this weekend would be their last on Oldham Road. "LAST CHANCE TO VISIT US AT OLDHAM ROAD!! As we have announced, Vnam will be relocating to 20-26 Edge Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M4 1HN.

"This will be our very last weekend open at our current restaurant so don’t miss out and BYOB. Don’t forget to tell your friends and family and invite them along for the final weekend.

"We look forward to seeing you all there and wish everyone a happy Christmas. Now is your chance to book and have one last meal before we move to NQ."

V Revolution owner Dom Moss (Dominic Salter)

While many will welcome the news of Vnam moving into the Northern Quarter, fans of former occupant V Rev were sad to see it close its doors in September. The venue announced the news just days after announcing reduced opening hours in a bid to make the venue work financially.

Posting on Instagram at the time, the restaurant, which was considered a trailblazer in vegan dining, issued a lengthy statement saying that the issue was "now out of our hands and we're absolutely gutted". V Rev had been a popular dining option in Manchester for the past ten years - and was one of he first to serve a 100 per cent vegan menu.

The restaurant was founded by Dominic Moss and was loved for its traditional American-style comfort food including mac and cheese, loaded nachos and fries. It also offered animal friendly burgers and hot dogs on its 100 per cent vegan menu.
