A chess player took a selfie with the world number one ahead of their game, only to have her phone confiscated moments later after her opponent reported her for breaking the rules.
Magnus Carlsen, the five-time world champion, faced Kazakhstan’s 18-year-old grandmaster Alua Nurman at Germany’s Grenke Chess Festival.
Ahead of the match, a beaming Nurman retrieved a phone and asked if she could take a photograph with Carlsen, to which he agreed.
He then stood up and reported Nurman to an official for having a phone in her possession, which is against the competition’s rules. Her phone was then taken away and the match went ahead.
