Tiger Woods has claimed that he was “talking to the president” after a rollover car crash in Florida that led to his arrest for a DUI.
The 50-year-old golfer was taken into custody after his SUV flipped over as he attempted to overtake a pickup truck at speed on a residential road on 27 March. No one was injured.
In bodycam footage released by Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods can be seen speaking into a phone following the crash. “Thank you so much. All right. You got it. Bye,” he said.
He then tells officers he had just been on the phone with ‘the president’.
The call was not captured on video, and it was not clear if Woods was referring to Donald Trump, a longtime friend of the athlete. He is currently dating Trump’s former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump.
Woods has pleaded not guilty for driving under the influence and was released on bail.
