\It’s not often we get the UFC to outright label upcoming fights as No. 1 contender bouts for titles.
So when it does happen, naturally we have to take advantage of it and break things down early – like with the upcoming middleweight bout between former champion Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis, which UFC president Dana White said will determine the next challenger for champ Israel Adesanya.
Adesanya beat Whittaker to win the title the first time. And he’s had some back-and-forth with Du Plessis, too, and there is increasingly bad blood there. Either way, Adesanya’s next fight seems like it’ll be an intriguing one right after the intrigue of how he recaptured the title with a knockout of Alex Pereira.
But was this the fight fight to make?
