A dog was reunited with his owner after being trapped underground for almost three days.
Five-year-old Cavapoo Bear fell down a fox hole in Seaton Park, Aberdeen, on Thursday, May 18, and could not be located. The community then rallied round, with experts from drone and drainage companies coming to the aid of Bear's owner Dasha Samatoina, who was in the city visiting friends when her pet became trapped.
Dasha told the Record: "Because of Bear's size - he's quite big, about 13kg - we think that he probably got stuck somewhere. From there onwards I called the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) to come and me and help me. I was desperate by then and terrified.
"It was dark as well, it was very quiet and we couldn't hear anything. The SFRS came to assist and look down the fox holes but unfortunately they couldn't hear anything, they couldn't see anything."
After three days of battling to rescue the dog, he was eventually found on Sunday evening and coaxed back out the hole to the surface. Bear is now in the care of a local Vets Now in Aberdeen while she is checked over.
Dasha, a lecturer at the University of Greenwich, said: “It’s been an emotional three days with my Cavapoo Bear being missing and stuck underground. It’s incredible how everyone offered their support and brought an amazing team of people together.
"He would never have been found and reunited alive with me without everyone’s help."
Dasha also thanked members of the public in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire who helped on lost and found pages. She added: "Thanks to the people of Aberdeen City. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart."
People rushed to social media to share their thoughts on the heartwarming reunion after pictures of Dasha hugging Bear were shared online.
Mary Fuller said: "Absolutely amazing news, so happy for Dasha and Bear. What a truly tremendous relief it must be. Well done to all the wonderful people involved in Bear's rescue."
Claire Goldie said: "So delighted to hear this! I’ve been thinking about Bear and hoping they’d get him free all weekend."
Margaret Spencer said: "So so happy for you! I know many must have been praying for Bear to get free. Super cuddles all around."
Gillian Smart said: "Wow, this brought tears to my eyes. Well done everyone involved."
Jodie Sheppard added: "Watching this made me cry. I am so glad we are a nation of animal lovers and we will all chip in to help wherever we can, if we can. All the people involved are truly amazing, well done to everyone."
