The welterweight title picture has been a little bit of a mess in the UFC.
Sure, we’ve had no problem knowing who the champ is and who the next challenger is going to be. But after Colby Covington has his shot at Leon Edwards, things have been a little messy. (And frankly, the messiness seemed to start when Covington was made next challenger, anyway.)
But we’ll go a long way toward knowing who’s next for the Edwards-Covington winner after UFC 288 next week, when Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns will fight on a little more than two weeks’ notice in a five-round co-main event.
Both Muhammad and Burns have said the UFC has promised the winner is next in line for the belt. But Burns will be making a quick turnaround, and Muhammad just wrapped Ramadan. Is the timing of the booking surprising?
