A Victorian man has been charged with 35 offences over the sexual assault and abduction of two hitchhikers dating back more than 20 years.
The 71-year-old Drouin man was arrested on Wednesday and interviewed about two incidents in September and December 1998.
On both occasions, the female complainants were hitch-hiking in Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs when they were picked up by a man and sexually assaulted.
Late on Wednesday, police charged a man with rape, abduction of a child under 16, false imprisonment, making threats to kill, procuring sexual penetration of a child under 16, sexual penetration and indecent act with a child under 16, stalking and firearms offences.
He will face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.
