Victoria have made a strong start with the ball early on day one of their must-win Sheffield Shield match against leaders Western Australia in Perth.
After being sent in to bat, WA ground their way to 3-45 from 28 overs in the morning session at the WACA.
Vics' captain Will Sutherland did the early damage with the wickets of Sam Whiteman (9) and Teague Wyllie (2) in quick succession.
Both fell to catches in the slips, with Sutherland going to lunch having taken 2-21.
Scott Boland then picked up the crucial wicket of the Shield's leading runscorer Cameron Bancroft, caught behind for 24.
Boland, who only just returned from the Test tour of India in time for the match, helped turn the screw on WA, returning 1-10 from eight tight overs.
Third-placed Victoria need to leapfrog Queensland, who are second on the Shield ladder, if they are to feature in next week's decider at the WACA.
With their place in the final already assured, WA made four changes, with key paceman Joel Paris and Matt Kelly both rested, while Mitch Marsh is heading to India for Australia ODI duties.
