Victoria has declared the Australian Oasis tour a major event to protect fans from being ripped off by shady scalpers. Take that, ya scalping flaming mongrels!
Ever since the British rockstars announced their tour Down Under, Aussies from across generations have been frothing at the mouth for a cheeky ticket. With the high demand, there are bound to be some shady folks waiting in the wings in hopes of making big bucks off desperate punters who might’ve fumbled tickets during the general sale.
To protect fans who were unlucky in buying those golden tix, the state government has declared that Oasis Live ’25 is a major event.
As a result, the shindig will be protected by the anti-scalping laws so that fans who are looking to buy resell tickets won’t get ripped off.
Basically, with Oasis Live ’25 becoming a major event, tickets for the gig cannot be advertised or resold for more than 10 per cent of its original value.
If scalpers are caught being shady, like charging ridonkulus amounts for the seats, they could cop a ‘yuge fine!
Minister for tourism, sport and major events Steve Dimopoulos said that they decided to label Oasis Live ’25 a major event so that fans could see the British bros “live at a fair price”.
“The Oasis reunion tour will be one of the biggest concerts to come to our shores in 2025 – and we’ve declared their Melbourne concerts as major events to make sure fans can see the Gallagher brothers live at a fair price,” he said.
“Melbourne is Australia’s live music capital, and we have a very clear stance on ticket scalping – do not resell tickets to concerts at inflated prices because you will be fined.’’
When do tickets for Oasis Live ’25 Australia go on sale?
Oasis will be playing two nights in both Melbourne and Sydney.
For Melbourne tickets, presale will kick off Monday, 14 October at 12pm AEDT with general sale going live Tuesday, 15 October at 10am.
For Sydneysiders, presale will kick off on Monday, 14 October at 2pm AEDT . General sale will then follow on Tuesday, 15 October at 12pm.
Last year, Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour — remember that whole kerfuffle? — was handed major event status.
Non-compliant scalpers were threatened with fined ranging from $908 to $545,220, depending on the nature of the offences.
With Oasis coming back to Australia after 19 years, I reckon it’ll be a bloody battle getting these tickets. Fingers crossed this will deter scalpers from scabbing those glorious tix alongside that weird trivia question the band chucked on their pre-sale ballot page.
