David and Victoria Beckham have ignored the backlash over their son Cruz's underwear photoshoot, standing firmly as proud and protective parents.
Some people had said they felt uneasy after Cruz posed for i-D magazine in his underwear, with many accusing the pictures of "sexualising" the 17-year-old.
But the couple appear to have no interest in the backlash, other than protecting their youngest son from it.
David had shared the photos, telling his followers he was "such a proud dad", while Victoria wrote: "Big first day as a 17-year-old!"
A source has claimed the family were shocked when the pictures were met with backlash.
An insider told Heat magazine that Victoria had been planning Cruz's debut for a "long time" and that she wanted it to be very different to Brooklyn's first modelling snaps.
They said: "After the experiences with Brooklyn, they really wanted to play it differently with Cruz and make sure he was working on his talent and had a vision and direction before launching him.
"But this backlash has panicked and upset her. She knows you can't please everyone - she is only too familiar - but now she's got to help him deal with this."
The source said that Cruz had been inundated with offers, and that while Victoria was originally a little concerned about the nature of the shoot, Cruz was all for it.
However, Victoria and David's response on social media appears to show anything but concern over the content of the snaps.
The couple have both spoken of their pride and have always been very supportive of their children, also being parents to Brooklyn, 22, Romeo, 19, and Harper, 10.
Cruz posed for the cover of the magazine with his hair dyed candyfloss pink.
He wore quite a lot of jewellery and held one hand up over one of his eyes as he stared into the lens with the other.
He was wearing a pair of white boxers and sitting down, with his jeans pulled down around his ankles.
Some fans reacting to the magazine cover felt it was inappropriate for his age.
One took to Twitter to say: "There are several things disturbingly inappropriate about Cruz Beckham’s i_d magazine shoot."
Someone else on the social networking app said: "I can’t be the only one uncomfortable with 17-year-old Cruz Beckham thirst trapping and stripping to his boxers and showing off abs for a mag front cover?!"
But some jumped to Cruz's defence, with one Instagram user writing: "Literally no positive comments from you people. This kid is 17 years old, and your comments are disgusting! You should all be ashamed of yourselves. If you don't like something... SCROLL ON BY!"
The Mirror has contacted David and Victoria's representatives for comment.
