San Antonio Spurs rookie center Victor Wembanyama has to adjust to a lot of things this year. He’s getting acclimated to playing in the NBA and living in the United States, but he hasn’t yet learned to avoid spicy vocabulary on national television.
During this week’s All-Star festivities in Indianapolis, Wembanyama sat down with the NBA on TNT cast on Saturday night and dropped a casual f-bomb that left Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley smiling. The first-year Spurs star was discussing how Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich coaches him, and he had a story that didn’t disappoint.
“I remember it’d be two, three months into the season, we were in film in front of everybody,” Wembanyama said. “And he goes, ‘What the f--- is this? This is what you were doing. They won.’”

After belting out a laugh, Smith said, “Welcome to cable TV.”
Wembanyama simply responded with a “my fault.” The 20-year-old is almost a shoo-in to win Rookie of the Year award. He’s averaging 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and an NBA-leading 3.2 blocks in 28.4 minutes per game.
He just has to work on the spicy language.
