Victor Osimhen transfer latest: Man Utd 'in pole position', Chelsea plan, £100m Napoli stance

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is attracting significant attention for his recent performances in Italy, with Chelsea and Manchester United hoping to sign a striker in the summer. The 24-year-old has helped his team move 13 points clear at the top of Serie A with 17 goals in all competitions this season which has understandably peaked the interest of many top clubs.

Osimhen only moved to Naples two-and-a-years-ago from Lille in a deal worth around £72million but he could be on the move again this time to the Premier League with Chelsea and United eyeing him as their main attacking target for the summer.

Graham Potter's side have severely struggled in front of goal this season, while United opted to sign Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley as a short-term solution to their woes in attack. Christopher Nkunku is set to arrive in west London ahead of the 2023/24 season, but that has not prevented Todd Boehly from including a new striker being acquired to the clubs summer priority list.

So, with that being said, football.london have taken a look at the latest reports linking Osimhen with a move away from Italy.

Man Utd working for 'pole position'

Il Mattino, a Naples based newspaper, claim that Manchester United tried to get ahead of the pack, which includes Chelsea, by enquiring over a move for Victor Osimhen in January. Their report hints that the Red Devils were trying to get ‘in pole position’ for the summer instead of pushing for the deal to be completed in the winter window.

Napoli weren’t interested in entering talks this early though, despite United initiating contact and putting the effort in, preferring to leave things for June.

Chelsea and Man Utd 'ready' for Osimhen battle

Chelsea and Man United could be set for a big summer of major signings being made with both clubs hoping to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen.

According to the Sunday, February 5 edition of Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, both United and Chelsea are 'ready' to invest €120million (£106million) to sign Osimhen.

Napoli price tag set

Chelsea look set to compete with a number of clubs for the summer transfer of Victor Osimhen, but it will take a large fee for Napoli to sanction his departure.

According to the Mirror, Todd Boehly will rival Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain for the target man this summer. The report insists that Napoli - who are currently top of Serie A - will demand around £100m for their striker.

Jose Mourinho verdict

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has told Chelsea transfer target Victor Osimhen what he must do to secure a Premier League move after the striker helped Napoli defeat Roma in January.

"I told him that he scored a wonderful goal and needs to stop diving so much," he said. "His goal was fantastic, he did the same thing when we met earlier this season, so he’s a fantastic player. But he mustn’t dive."
