As Victor Orta zeros in on his next Leeds United target, Marcelo Bielsa has talked up the director of football’s transfer record.
Red Bull Salzburg’s Brenden Aaronson is understood to be Orta’s number one target in the January transfer window after a £15m bid was knocked back earlier this month.
While the head coach was not willing to discuss another club’s player, he was asked about his relationship with Orta and the value of a competent director of football.
“Moreover than my opinion, there's evidence of the growth of Leeds United since Victor Orta's been here,” he said.
“The teams are produced through their individualities and in that sense, he's picked well.”
This summer will mark Orta’s fifth anniversary at Elland Road and across that period Bielsa believes the majority of his recruits improve and increase their value during their Leeds careers.
Illan Meslier, Raphinha, Jack Harrison, Diego Llorente, Daniel James, Mateusz Klich, Pascal Struijk, Junior Firpo and Rodrigo are among the signings Orta has made which now form the backbone of this squad.
Leo Hjelde, Lewis Bate, Stuart McKinstry, Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood, Cody Drameh and Crysencio Summerville are all Orta recruits who made Premier League debuts as teenagers this season.
“He's found the adequate players that adapt to the way of playing of Leeds,” said Bielsa.
“The majority of them are young and the players that have arrived here, they are usually worth more after they have been here.
“That means he picked players with [a] margin of growth for the potential to be better. He's a person who knows the market very well with regards to young players in different countries.
“He's picked young players who are very good, just to name a few: Pascal, Gelhardt, Hjelde.
“All of these things, we don't need me to describe them because I'm describing things you can see in reality.”
