Victim blinded in one eye after glass smashed in his face at central London restaurant

A man who smashed a glass in his victim’s face at a central London restaurant, blinding him in one eye, has been jailed for over six years.

Tauream Smith-Sharp, 28, from Watford, was sentenced to six years and nine months in jail at Inner London Crown Court after being found guilty of Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent and Affray.

He had attacked his victim at a restaurant in New Change Passage in the City of London on October 14 2021.

At roughly 11.40pm, the victim was making his way towards the cloakroom when he was attacked by Smith-Sharp.

Smith-Sharp smashed a glass into his face, wounding his right eye, and then threw chairs at him.

City of London Police Detective Constable Ufuk Ekbic said: “This was an unprovoked and violent attack, which took place in a matter of minutes, resulting in the victim receiving a life-changing injury.

“Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, we were able to secure this conviction and put a dangerous individual behind bars.

“We will act quickly and use all available resources when a violent act is committed to bring assailants to justice.”
