The Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival returns to the capital on Wednesday, February 23 with quite the roster of events lined up.
Returning once again as an in-person series of events "back where it belongs in cinemas", audiences will be presented with domestic and international feature films, short films and documentaries as well as a host of galas, premieres and special events.
This year sees the festival in its 20th year and promises a special celebration of all things cinema.
Big names in the lineup for the festival include on screen stars such as Carrie Crowley, Alan Cummings, Moe Dunford, Vicky Phelan and George MacKay.
Additionally, there will be filmmakers and creatives such as Neil Brand, Nathalie Biancheri, Adam McKay, Laurent Larivière and Joi McMillon.
Lasting 12 days until March 6, there are over 100 events included in the festival and kicking things off is An Cailin Ciuin, Colm Bairead’s spell-binding portrait of an Irish childhood.
Other films that cinema fans will be eager to see include Nightride (a thriller about a dealer trying to pull off one last job), Roise + Frank (a film about a grief stricken widow who believes a dog is her reincarnated husband) and the world premiere of Donal Foreman’s highly anticipated The Cry of Granuaile, to name a small few.
One of the films that was shot in Dublin is Conor McMahon’s comedic horror Let the Wrong One In.
Vicky Phelan's emotional story will also be brought to life in Vicky, Sasha King’s exclusive and intimate journey into the woman's fight to expose the truth of what happened in the Cervical Check Scandal for all women, as well as her own personal fight to stay alive.
Festival Director Grainne Humphreys said: "I am particularly delighted to premiere the superb line up of new Irish films and show these new works alongside their international counterparts.
"It’s a festival programme which I am extremely proud of, packed with discoveries and gems."
Meanwhile Paul Higgins, Vice President of Commercial at Virgin Media Ireland said: "The festival offers a host of movies, international features and shorts, along with celebrity and director Q&As and special events which cinema fans can experience in person or from the comfort of their home.
"There really is something for everyone to discover at this year’s festival."
