Vicky Phelan has admitted that she worries about her daughter after the spate of recent attacks on women.
Last month, 23-year-old teacher Ashling Murphy died after being attacked while out exercising.
In the past three days, two women have been hospitalised after separate incidents in Kilkenny and St Stephen's Green, Dublin.
According to Women’s Aid, 244 women have died violently in Ireland since 1996.
And speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, Vicky admitted that she has some concerns about her 16-year-old daughter Amelia.
She said: "I'm horrified. I've just been watching the news there in the last day or two and those attacks that have happened, Jesus you have to wonder, what's the world coming to? I would worry, I have a daughter who's 16, she goes up to Dublin for her course.
"A lot of these attacks are happening. It's not enough to be telling girls to protect themselves and go off and do all these self defence classes, its up to men, at the end of the day, it's men. I know it's not all men, I understand that, but unfortunately it's women who are bearing the brunt and having to adjust themselves and their lives.
"I know what that fear is like, I remember going out running and I always had the key between my fingers and I was constantly looking over my shoulder. No man has to do that, so what does that tell you?"
Vicky, who is best know for her work highlighting the CervicalCheck scandal.
During the week, the CervicalCheck Tribunal, which was set up as an alternative to the High Court for women to make claims, has extended its closing date until July 2022.
Vicky noted that she thought this would happen, telling Newstalk: "Ah sure, look, I think they're hoping to get more than what they've gotten. They've got, I think, ten applications to date so far, which is exactly what we told them that there wouldn't be interest from families or women involved, because it's not giving them anything more than what they'd get in the High Court, and it's behind closed doors.
"That's a worry, because with it in the open, you know what's going on."
