She's now a household name after starring in Line of Duty watched by millions, but many will know Vicky McClure from her earlier days in the hit film and TV series This Is England. The Nottingham star features as 'Lol' in the Shane Meadows drama and won the hearts of viewers through her stunning performances over the years.
Previously she played the title character's sister Ladine in A Room for Romeo Brass (1999), before starring in Meadows's most successful film to date, This Is England (2006), donning a Fred Perry jacket, shaved head and Dr Martens boots in true skinhead style. Frances Lorraine Woodford or more commonly known as "Lol" is a supporting character in This Is England film, and one of the central characters of This Is England '86 , This Is England '88 and This Is England '90 .
Introduced as a young skinhead in 1983, Lol was a factory worker and is later a single mother who lived near Nottingham, and part of the skinhead gang during the early 80s. Loud and friendly, yet a little reserved, Lol was a prominent member of the gang.
Lol and her partner Woody (Joe Gilgun) had been together before This Is England was set, and she was the natural leader of the females of the group, with her younger sister Kelly (Chanel Cresswell) and friends Smell (Rosamund Hanson) and Trev (Danielle Watson) In 1988, she became a single mother to a daughter named Lisa and a son, Jimmy born in 1989.
She suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder in which she often experienced visions of her abusive father. McClure's portrayal of Lol won her a BAFTA in 2011 for This Is England '86 and also a nominee in 2012 for her performance in This Is England '88.
How old is Lol in This Is England?
According to the This Is England Wiki, Lol was born around 1962 which would make her 21 years old at the start of the This Is England film which also stars Stephen Graham - who also featured in Line of Duty. The Wiki also says it was revealed that McClure did not wear any makeup throughout the television series of the programme.
Prior to filming for This Is England '88, McClure was kept separate from the other members of the cast, and given a different hotel to increase the feelings of isolation her character was meant to feel.
