Vice President Kamala Harris visited Hakim’s Bookstore and Gift Shop, a Black-owned business, and Philly Cuts, a West Philadelphia barbershop, to engage with voters ahead of the election. At Philly Cuts, Harris participated in a discussion with Black men, emphasizing the need for better incentives for teachers, including improved pay and increased recruitment of Black men in the teaching profession.
During her visit, Harris highlighted the issue of inadequate teacher salaries and student loan debt, stressing the importance of attracting and retaining more Black male educators. She expressed her commitment to addressing these challenges to enhance the education system.
At Hakim’s Bookstore, Harris interacted with patrons, including Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker. She conveyed her optimism about winning the election, stating, 'Victory runs through Philly and Pennsylvania.'
While exploring the children's section of the store, Harris connected with an 11-year-old boy, encouraging him as a future leader. She sought book recommendations for 8-year-old and 6-year-old children, showing her interest in promoting literacy and education among young individuals.
