Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed to reporters on Sunday that she has participated in the 2024 election by casting her ballot. She disclosed that she recently filled out her mail-in ballot and sent it to California, where she is registered to vote.
During a press briefing in Detroit, Harris stated, 'I actually just filled out my mail-in ballot. So, I have voted.' When asked if the ballot had been returned, she replied, 'My ballot is on its way to California, and I’m going to trust the system that it will arrive there.'
Regarding Proposition 36, a statewide ballot initiative concerning increased sentencing for individuals convicted of repeat retail theft or drug crimes, Harris opted not to provide her opinion. She explained, 'I am not going to talk about the vote on that because honestly, it’s the Sunday before the election, and I don’t intend to create an endorsement one way or another around it.'
Vice President Harris's proactive approach to voting serves as a reminder of the importance of civic engagement and exercising one's right to vote. Her decision to participate in the electoral process reflects a commitment to democracy and the democratic values that underpin the American political system.
