Vice President Kamala Harris visited Corning’s Hemlock Semiconductor Next Gen Facility in Michigan on Monday to emphasize the importance of investing in American manufacturing jobs. The facility recently received a $325 million preliminary investment under the CHIPS and Science Act, a bipartisan bill passed in 2022 during the Biden administration.
During her tour, Vice President Harris had the opportunity to explore the assembly line and interact with workers. At one point, she was cautioned by her tour host not to touch some sharp materials on display, to which she responded with a light-hearted acknowledgment.
She engaged with workers wearing hard hats who explained the process of making polysilicon from quartz, a crucial component in the production of solar panels. Harris stressed the need for continuous innovation, stating that the country must not rely solely on tradition but must also invest in industries of the future while honoring the foundations of the American economy.
With the upcoming election just eight days away, Harris contrasted her approach with that of former President Donald Trump, highlighting the importance of uplifting American values and rejecting negative rhetoric that undermines the nation's standing in the world.
