Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to meet with US families on Tuesday whose loved ones were taken hostage by Hamas. This meeting is part of the ongoing negotiations for the release of remaining hostages and a ceasefire in Israel's conflict in Gaza.
The meeting, which will be the second of its kind, is set to take place in the afternoon and will be closed to the press, as per an advisory from her office. The families have been deeply affected by Hamas' attack on Israel that occurred on October 7 last year.
Prior to Harris' meeting, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held a meeting with the families on Monday evening to discuss the situation and provide support.
In efforts to facilitate negotiations and potentially broker a deal between Israel and Hamas, CIA Director Bill Burns traveled to Cairo over the weekend. During his visit, Burns presented a new proposal aimed at bridging the gap between the two conflicting parties and working towards a resolution.
