Vice President Harris To Deliver Major Address At Ellipse

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has decided to conclude the 2024 presidential election with a significant address at the Ellipse, a park near the White House. This location holds historical significance as it was where former President Donald Trump delivered a speech on January 6, 2021, which energized his supporters, some of whom later participated in the attack on the US Capitol.

The campaign advisers have announced that Harris will deliver this address on Tuesday, just one week before Election Day. A senior campaign official has mentioned that the speech is still in the development stage. Despite the deliberate reference to the events of January 6, the official has dismissed the notion that the speech will solely focus on democracy.

The upcoming speech by Harris is expected to highlight Trump's actions during the Capitol riots as an example of self-serving behavior and a disregard for the well-being of the country. However, the speech will shift the focus towards the change that Harris aims to bring to the nation through her campaign and candidacy. It will emphasize a commitment to 'turn the page' on that turbulent period in American history.

During his 2020 campaign and subsequent 2024 re-election efforts, President Joe Biden prioritized the protection of democracy as a key issue. Biden withdrew from the 2024 race in July, ending his re-election bid. Some Democrats had raised concerns about the strategy of emphasizing democracy protection, suggesting that voters are more inclined to prioritize issues like the economy when casting their votes.
