Vice President Harris Defends Biden's Afghanistan Withdrawal Decision

Joe Biden looks focused.

During a recent debate, the topic of Afghanistan was brought up, shedding light on the chaotic withdrawal from the country. A poignant moment was witnessed on Capitol Hill as soldiers who lost their lives during the withdrawal were honored. The Vice President was asked if she believed she bore any responsibility for the way the withdrawal unfolded.

In response, the Vice President expressed agreement with President Biden's decision to pull out of Afghanistan. This decision, she noted, ended the costly cycle of spending $300 million a day on the war. Notably, for the first time this century, there are no active-duty U.S. military members in combat zones worldwide.

The Vice President then delved into the events leading up to the withdrawal, highlighting the negotiation conducted by former President Trump with the Taliban. She criticized the deal as weak, emphasizing that it involved releasing 5,000 Taliban terrorists without the involvement of the Afghan government. The Vice President also criticized the former president for inviting the Taliban to Camp David, a move she deemed disrespectful to the significance of the location and the role of the U.S. President as Commander-in-Chief.

Furthermore, the Vice President pointed out the former president's history of disparaging and demeaning members of the military, including fallen soldiers. She stressed the importance of upholding the strength and respect of the United States on the global stage.

The discussion underscored the complexities and challenges surrounding the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, bringing to light differing perspectives on the decisions made by past administrations and their implications for American foreign policy.
