The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has made cuts to frontline jobs for psychologists, clinical social workers, and other crucial positions, despite assurances that patient care would not be affected. This has raised alarms as suicides among veterans continue to remain disproportionately high.
The Department of Veterans Affairs justified the need for cutting 10,000 jobs, stating that these positions were primarily managerial and supervisory roles. However, investigations have revealed that jobs directly related to patient care have been eliminated, leading to understaffing in critical departments such as mental health.
