CBS News fires Scott Pelley from 60 Minutes after Bari Weiss clash

  • Veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley has been fired from his role after reportedly accusing CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss of "murdering" the top news program.
  • Pelley received a termination letter from 60 Minutes ' new executive producer, Nick Bilton, whom Pelley had criticised for having "slender" qualifications for the job.
  • The dismissal followed a tense staff meeting where Pelley allegedly "hijacked" the discussion to disparage Bilton and Weiss, claiming she was brought in to "kill" the programme.
  • Bilton's termination letter, which circulated on social media, stated that Pelley's "performative display of hostility" demonstrated no interest in the show's future success, leading to his employment being "terminated for cause effective immediately."
  • Bari Weiss, who founded The Free Press, was appointed last October after billionaire David Ellison, reportedly linked to Donald Trump, acquired CBS 's parent company, Paramount , and has faced scrutiny for decisions such as pulling a segment on Venezuelan migrants.
