When it comes to naming a dog, owners have so many options at their disposal because they can venture outside the 'norm'. While many others opt for the tried and tested classics, such as Bella and Max, others have been naming their precious pets after movie characters, their favourite foods, and even other animals.
A vet has taken to Reddit to plead with dog owners to "return to the classics" because he is beyond fed up of hearing the name Luna being called out in the waiting room. He said: "As a veterinarian, please, I'm begging you guys to stop naming your pets Luna.
"It's a cute name but it needs to be put to rest a few decades. On Sunday, I had five Lunas in for an appointment - it was absurd.
"How about a return to the classics - Scruffy, Spot, Barkley. I don't care. From a concerned medical profession."
Not only is the common dog name driving him 'crazy', but it is also causing complications with his everyday job.
He added: "It is even to the point where our front desk staff will say, 'you know Luna with the constant ear infections - well her mum called and wants...'
"And I'm like no, I don’t know who you are talking about, there are like six Lunas with constant ear infections at this point."
While many users laughed at his request, others awkwardly confessed to giving their pets common names.
One user said: "Yikes - I feel attacked (not really). I adopted my cats last year from a girl who needed to rehome them.
"One was named Luna and the other was Scarlett. (Scarlett Johannson actually). But I didn’t like how they didn’t match, so I renamed her Stella."
Another user added: "Can't stop laughing — one of my best friends has a Luna, Bella, and a Loki."
A third user said: "My boyfriend and I both named our respective pets Luna before it was this popular and now I am embarrassed to tell people my dog's name.
"For clarification, I have a cat and he has a dog named Luna from before we met."
