Riley Jones has offered some much needed clarification on Vera's new series, after fans of the long-running drama were left confused by the new run of episodes.
There was a lot of mystery surrounding the ITV show when, after just four episodes, it was went missing from TV schedules early last year, with it being shunted out of it usual Sunday night 8pm slot for the return of The Good Karma Hospital and launch of Vicky McClure thriller Trigger Point.
ITV stayed silent on when Vera would be back, with UK based fans further frustrated by the fact that viewers in America got to watch the remaining two episodes in the States on BritBox.
At the start of January, the news everyone had been waiting what felt like an eternity to hear finally arrived, when ITV confirmed Vera would be back. And the confusion ensued when all of the new episodes were billed by some sources as all being series 12, when in fact the reality was different.

And, as Sunday's episode aired, Riley, well known to millions of viewers as DCI Stanhope's colleague Mark Edwards, directly responded to fans to clear things up.
Tweeting during feature length opener to series 12 - Against The Tide - which featured an 80s TV icon and the exit of Paul Kaye as Dr Malcolm, Riley wrote: "Just to clear up any confusion last week was the end of series 11 which we filmed in 2021. Tonight’s is ep 1 of series 12 filmed last year. Enjoy!!!"
Replying to Riley, one fan wrote: "Oooooo good to know. Thank you," with another telling the actor: "Thanks for clearing that up!!! I was very confused"
A third joked: "You can tell the difference...it's sunny in these episodes - it's usually overcast and raining"
There are still another three episodes of Vera coming in the new run, with the second episode of series 12, For The Grace of God, seeing the action switch to the centre of Newcastle. That will air on ITV1 on Sunday, February 5.
