Remarks made by Brenda Blethyn earlier this year should act as some reassurance to Vera viewers, who are concerned they might not get to see the drama on TV again, after a cryptic post from her co-star Kenny Doughty.
Vera has been pulling in millions of viewers to ITV for 12 years now, with fans assuming it will be one of the shows that will just run and run, given its ratings success and the interest in it worldwide. Its 12th series came to an end in gripping style with The Darkest Evening at the end of last month, however, Kenny, who has been playing DS Aiden Healy for the last eight years, has now cast a shadow of doubt on its future.
Brenda's on screen sidekick took to Instagram on Thursday to share a number of photos from the Vera set. He's done that plenty of times before but it was the caption on his most recent post that sparked concern as he wrote 'thank you for the memories.'

With Kenny offering no indication on what that meant, Vera devotees were worried that the end is nigh for their favourite detective drama.
However, the good news is that, while ITV have yet to address its long term future, Brenda, 77, has already confirmed that filming has already wrapped on another feature length episode - The Rising Tide.
The cast and crew reunited in the run up to Christmas, with fans spotting them in Durham and Corbridge and, detailing what they were up to, the BAFTA and Golden Globe winner said: "I have to pinch myself every time we drive across that causeway to Holy Island. It is so lovely. But having filmed scenes for Vera on Holy Island over the years ,working on The Rising Tide was the first time I’ve actually been into the village there and the little harbour and jetty itself."
She elaborated: "Because I’m always up to my eyeballs in work at the location on the island we use for the exterior of Vera’s house. I also went out on a boat from Holy Island this time. It was great but absolutely freezing cold on the boat. Among the locations we filmed at was The Ship pub which is The Seahorse in the story. The people there were very hospitable."
