Brenda Blethyn has cleared up a 'mystery' surrounding Vera, giving a direct response to a fan on Twitter as other viewers longed for its return on Sunday night.
BAFTA and Golden Globe winner Brenda has now been playing no nonsense sleuth DCI Stanhope for over a decade, bringing Ann Cleeves' much loved character to the screen to great aplomb for the last 12 years. She was back on screen in January as Vera returned for a string of six new episodes, kicking off with the 'missing' remaining parts of series 11, which were directly followed by four feature length episodes from the hit drama's 12th series.
The last one of those was The Darkest Evening, the gripping series finale that had Vera fans on the edge of their seats last weekend. The two hour instalment saw Brenda's on-screen alias spark concern from fans during an ad break, when they saw Vera fall to the ground as a gun shot was heard.
Thankfully, she was alright, having just banged her head on a wall, rather than being shot, and now ITV viewers are wondering when they'll get to see her in action.
And another fan contacted lead actress Brenda directly on Twitter to seek the answer ion something else that had been bothering them., writing: "I love Vera and I’ve watched every episode. but just one more thing I’ve always wondered…how do you manage to get a picture of all the suspects on the witness board in the station? Even if they’re missing pet?"
Offering a response, Brenda replied: "passport drivers licence social media or from family."
Brenda is also the person who has confirmed that Vera WILL be back at some point, revealing that another episode - The Rising Tide - is already in the can, after going into production before Christmas. ITV told ChronicleLive that no decision had been made on what it will air.
As the new series of Endeavour aired in Vera's place on Sunday night, one fan, clearly missing their weekly fix of DCI Stanhope, tweeted: " No #VERA @ITV I’ve loved the series, going to miss it. Any ideas when it is coming back," with a second commenting: "Just finished watching vera on ITV and @BrendaBlethyn is an amazing actor and just hope that there will be a series 13 !??"
