Vera's Brenda Blethyn and Kenny Doughty earn award win for ITV drama as fans long for its return

Brenda Blethyn and Kenny Doughty have landed a big award win for Vera, after they were named the Best Detective Duo at this year's Entertainment Daily awards.

The pair have been kept very busy of late, with more filming right around the North East, including in Newcastle itself and in Corbridge, where they attracted plenty of interest from locals. Last week, Kenny posted a photo on Instagram to declare 'that's a wrap' as filming ended on episode five of Vera series 12, with him telling fans that there were now seven episodes to show.

There has been some confusion as to when Vera will be back on screen, given that two 'missing' episodes of series 11 are still to air, but one thing that is for certain is Brenda and Kenny's award win, which was celebrated by fans on Wednesday.

Reacting to the result, one fan tweeted: "Huge love and well done @BrendaBlethyn @kennydoughty for winning @EntDailyUK Awards 2022. I love voting for you and being a proud fan of @VeraSeries," to which Kenny replied: "How lovely."

As soon as news of the win appeared on Kenny's timeline, his followers were quick to respond, with one commenting: "Yes so happy to see this, well done Kenny and @BrendaBlethyn, best duo definitely won" and a second reacted: "nowt but right..best duo detectives ever."

Other Entertainment Daily winners this year included Emmerdale for Best Soap, Alison Hammond for Best Loved Presenter and Jane McDonald, who took home the National Treasure title.

Kenny and Vera's award win came after the actor, known to millions of viewers as DS Aiden Healy, paid tribute to his BAFTA winning co-star and the show's crew on Instagram, writing: "Of course I want to say thank you and congratulations on another series to my buddy Brenda. Absolute rock of a friend and astounding leading lady. Love you!

"But this show simply would not happen without the hardest working crew I know. On the floor every day. No matter the location. The weather. The tears. The laughter. They give Brenda & myself the stage in which to act. And without them we would be rudderless."
