Vera fans built themselves up for bitter disappointment on Friday night as they saw that the much loved drama had been given a primetime slot on ITV, weeks after the new series was pulled off air.
However, rather than series 11 making a welcome return to screens on a different day, after being shunted from 8pm on Sundays to make way for The Good Karma Hospital and Trigger Point, the channel made the bizarre move of repeating series 10, despite the fact it was only on in 2020.
It took a few fans a while to clock that what they were watching was actually a repeat, while others were annoyed that ITV decided to show a repeat of Vera instead of giving everyone what they wanted and showing the final two episodes of series 11.

One disgruntled Vera fan tweeted: "Watching tv looking forward to Vera itv and again another repeat when we have been promised a new series ruin the Friday night then."
A second reacted: "I know the killer already, pet! Instead of repeating #Vera episodes which are still fresh from their first airing, why don't ITV pull their thumb out & stick on a film premiere, the likes of which are wasted, ignored & barely advertised on their cast-off alternative, ITV2?"

And a third posted: "@ITV what are you doing with #Vera?? You cut short series 11 and now you’re showing series 10 on Friday night prime time TV!! Make your bloody minds up ffs!! Talk about confusing!"

When contacted by ChronicleLive last month, a spokesperson for ITV Drama said they had "no news at present" on when the final two episodes of Vera would air.
There was some good news for fans a few weeks ago though when lead actress Brenda Blethyn let slip on Twitter than filming on series 12 was going to start in March.
